The Last of Us characters are well-rounded and tragic, depicting the lives of individuals attempting to survive through a grisly apocalypse. But while Joel, Ellie, Abby, and others commonly stand within The Last of Us' limelight, there is another character that fans have recently shouted their praises toward. Please note that this article will have some SPOILERS for The Last of Us.

Players are introduced to Bill in his booby-trapped corner of Lincoln, Massachusetts, where tripwire explosives and craftable nail bombs also debut. Much is left undisclosed about Bill's character, such as why his history with Joel is rocky and transactional. As a result, the conscious omission of his backstory is unfortunate for many fans who became interested in the character during his brief appearance in The Last of Us.

The Last of Us fans, such as bucks800, agree that they wish Bill received a post-launch story expansion that could depict more about his life before or after the events of the original game. Bill is unsociable, irritable, and does not stick around in The Last of Us for long, but he is a welcome addition, as players traverse trapped areas and navigate around extensive sequences featuring infected enemies. As for what fans wish they were able to learn about Bill, the events that preceded the tragic and conflicted relationship he had with his partner Frank are at the top of the list.

Bill is then referenced in a single conversation between Ellie and Dina in The Last of Us 2, though the dialogue that ensues is interruptible if players progress too quickly through that particular area. Other fans believe that Bill may have ultimately died between the events of The Last of Us and The Last of Us 2, citing how dangerous the environment is that he chose to reside in. Even so, a prequel narrative showing what his life was like earlier in the apocalypse and how he survived before he was on his own would excite fans.

The Last of Us may not expand upon Bill, but bucks800 states that they are "looking forward to his portrayal on the HBO show". The Last of Us' live-action TV series has all but confirmed that a larger emphasis will be placed on the relationship between Bill and Frank. The show's casting announcements have revealed actors Con O'Neill and Murray Bartlett will play Bill and Frank respectively. Because Frank is cast, the potential for Bill and Frank's relationship to be shown is high.

Rumors of an unannounced The Last of Us remake could also give Bill's fans the potential backstory that they desire. Regardless, fans continue to show their admiration for the characters in The Last of Us franchise.

The Last of Us 2 is available now on PS4.
